Afro-Caribbean Society of Northern British Columbia (AFCAS)
The Afro-Caribbean Society of Northern British Columbia (AFCAS-NBC) is a community-based organization dedicated to empowering and supporting the Afro-Caribbean people of African ancestry residing in Northern British Columbia. Our mission is to foster cultural awareness, promote socio-economic development, and enhance the well-being of individuals and families in our community. We aim to create a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive environment where the African and Caribbean heritage is celebrated as an integral part of Canada’s diverse multicultural landscape.

AFCAS envisions a future where Afro-Caribbean peoples of Northern British Columbia are united, empowered, and recognized for their contributions to the broader Canadian society. We strive to build a community that embraces its cultural heritage, values diversity, and promotes social justice, equality, and opportunity for all.

OUR OBJECTIVES
- Providing cultural programming, including events, workshops, and educational activities, that highlight the rich traditions of Africa and the Caribbean.
- Offering resources and support for community members to address social, economic, and political challenges faced by Afro-Caribbean individuals and families in Northern B.C.
- Promoting community unity and solidarity through initiatives that bring together people of African and Caribbean descent, as well as allies who share our values and vision.
- Advocating for social justice and human rights, and supporting efforts that advance freedom, equality, and dignity for all people.
Membership
AFCAS welcomes both full and associate members:
- Full Membership: Available to individuals of African or Caribbean descent who are committed to our mission and vision. Members have voting rights, can hold leadership positions, and are active participants in our programs and events.
- Associate Membership: Open to individuals who may not share African or Caribbean heritage but support our goals and wish to contribute to our initiatives. Associate members are invited to volunteer and participate in various activities but do not have voting rights or the ability to hold Executive positions.
